Some objects of the liberating troops closely connecting to the Victory of April 30, 1975 are being displayed in the Palace enclosure
1. F5E Aircraft : This is a kind of American fighting plane, an object similar in form and at the same time as F5E aircraft which hero pilot NGUYEN THANH TRUNG had used to bomb the Independence Palace on April 8, 1975. In 1995, this plane was granted by the Technical Department of the Airforce HQs-Ministry of Defense and brought to the Cultural Historical relic Independence Palace from A 42 Plant. Pilot NGUYEN THANH TRUNG was a member of Vietnamese Communist Party but he operated in the airforce ranks of the Republic of Vietnam. After he was ordered to use the F5E aircraft to bomb the liberated area, at 08.00 h on April 08, 1975 on the flight route, he tried to separate from his formation and returned to bomb the Independence Palace. Two drilling bombs were dropped and damaged the landing pit and destroyed the whole central staircase of the Palace.
2. Tank 390:
Tank of T59 type, medium grade, made in China. This is an object similar in form and concurrent to tank 390 - the first tank which banged the main gate of the Independence Palace on April 30, 1975. The members in the tank 390 at that moment were:
- VU DANG TOAN, 1st Lieutenant, Political member of the company, the tank leader.
- NGO SY NGUYEN, Sergeant, Gunner No.1.
- LE VAN PHUONG, 2nd Lieutenant, Gunner No.2.
- NGUYEN VAN TAP, Sergeant, Driver.
This tank was granted by warehouse KT 580-KTBC-Department -TCKT-HQs of Amored Tank -Ministry of Defense and brought to the place of Independence Palace Cultural Historical Relics on April 15, 2001 as a displaying object on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Saigon Liberation.
3. Tank 843 - Tank of T54 model, medium grade, made in USSR. This is an object similar in form and concurrent to the tank bearing number 843 which barged inclined the auxiliary gate of the Independence Palace at 10.45 h on April 30, 1975. Members of tank 843 at that time were:
- BUI QUANG THAN - 1st Lieutenant, Company Commander, Tank Leader.
- THAI BA MINH – Gunner No.1.
- NGUYEN VAN KY – Gunner No.2.
- LU VAN HOA – Driver
This tank was collected from the NCO Armour Academy of the Armour HQs and was restored to tank 843 for displaying as an object on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Saigon Liberation.
